PoE Orb of Conflict

The Orb of Conflict is a powerful currency item introduced in the Siege of the Atlas expansion. This orb allows players to modify Eldritch Implicit modifiers on their items, providing an avenue to further enhance their gear’s capabilities.

Overview

Item Description

  • Stack Size: 10
  • Effect: Unpredictably raises the strength of one Searing Exarch or Eater of Worlds modifier on an item and lowers the strength of another. Lesser modifiers that have their strength lowered will be removed.
  • Usage: Right-click the Orb of Conflict, then left-click a non-unique item to apply it. The item must have both a Searing Exarch and an Eater of Worlds implicit modifier.

Mechanics

How It Works

  • Eldritch Implicits: These are special modifiers associated with the Searing Exarch and the Eater of Worlds. The Orb of Conflict can be used to manipulate the strength of these modifiers.
  • Modifier Interaction: Using an Orb of Conflict will increase the tier of one Eldritch implicit modifier (either Searing Exarch or Eater of Worlds) while decreasing the tier of the other. The outcome is influenced by the current tiers of the modifiers, with higher-tier modifiers having a reduced chance of being further upgraded.
  • Weighting: The chance to upgrade a modifier when the tiers are equal is 50%. Each difference in tier modifies the rate by approximately ±11%, with a lower chance to upgrade if the desirable implicit is already higher. For example, if the item has a 5/3 tier split, the chance to upgrade the 5 to 6 while downgrading the 3 to 2 is around 28%.

Usage Strategy

  • Optimal Use: It is generally advisable to first roll for the desired implicit using "Grand" tier Eldritch currency. Once the desired modifier is obtained, players can then use an Exceptional currency for the opposite implicit, since the modifier itself is not relevant when using the Orb of Conflict.
  • Imprints: Items can be imprinted prior to using an Orb of Conflict, allowing players to reset if a modifier is downgraded.
  • Higher Tiers: The Orb of Conflict is the only way to obtain Tier 5 and Tier 6 Eldritch implicit modifiers, referred to in-game as "Exquisite" and "Perfect."

Conclusion

The Orb of Conflict is a key tool for players looking to fine-tune their equipment in Path of Exile. By allowing for the manipulation of Eldritch Implicit modifiers, it opens up new possibilities for optimizing gear. While the process involves a degree of randomness, strategic use of the orb can significantly enhance an item’s potential, making it a valuable resource for endgame content.
